Lauren J. Nelson, Ed.S, LPES, LPC
A longstanding School Psychologist, Licensed Psychoeducational Specialist and Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina who enjoys every moment of helping others unlock the high-performing futures they deserve. As a specialist who has worked directly with students and families in the educational setting for 12 years, I hold extensive expertise involving psychoeducational evaluations, psychological assessments, and leading individual and group therapies for children, teens, and adults. Even more, I enjoy leveraging that dynamicity to not just support others during their unique mental health journey, but ultimately help them recognize their innate worth, find balance, and feel confident as they shift from merely surviving to genuinely living.

All About Me
Native to Northwest Ohio, I learned early on that the mental health field was the passion I wanted to pursue. Part of that stems from being raised by a mother who worked in special education, part from witnessing my younger sister struggle with significant mental health issues beginning at a young age, and part from my naturally altruistic nature. With this as my base, it became the catalyst for me to attain a BS in Psychology from The University of Southern Indiana along with a Masters of Science and Education Specialists degrees in School Psychology from The Citadel. Since then, I have worked diligently in the public school systems across various locations, including South Carolina and Virginia, and with the Department of Defense Education Activity in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Wiesbaden, Germany. During this time, I worked with individuals with various underlying mental health conditions. Some of the more notable ones include ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysmorphia. In 2022 I obtained LPES and LPC licensures and began providing psychological assessment and individual therapy for adolescents and adults in the private sector in South Carolina. In 2024 I permanently relocated to Beaufort and continue to provide in-person and virtual services serving the citizens of Beaufort and the surrounding communities.
I have two worlds of people I see. In one world, I work with individuals on their mental health journey through therapy. The typical person I see feels trapped within themselves and is ready to expose the rawness of allowing themselves to just be there in the therapy space. I love being there to support that rawness coming out and to process through that journey with you. If you are interested in knowing more about these services, click here.

In the other world, I work with individuals and agencies in a more diagnostic approach through tailored psychological or psychoeducational testing, as well as with families of school-aged children and youth seeking educational advocacy support.
